Known as the “Jade Buddha Temple” it houses two of the most exquisite done jade statue on earth. The larger one is in the seated position made out of a single piece of white jade and is approx 1.9m high and a smaller one can be found in the reclining position. Both are encrusted with many precious jewels and stones and have a calming and peaceful aura around them.
Situated in Anyuan road, this monetary date back to 1882, when the two statues were originally brought and placed from Burma by Master Hui Gen. Master Hui Gen traveled Asia visiting many holy Buddhist sites and when he arrived in Burma was struck by the beauty of Jade and at once wanted statue made from this precious stone to take back to China. After hard work and commitment and with the help of devotees he was able to fulfill this goal and gift China with these masterfully done statues.
With its vivid history this monastery has come a long way through these years, becoming one of the most visited sites in Shanghai by both Buddhist and a non- Buddhist alike. Now being a popular travel destination many other shrines and statues have been added to the Jade Buddha temple for the benefit of its visitors. With some of them being the Chamber of the Heavenly Kings, the Grand Hall with its many diverse statues and The Golden Buddha.
